To kick off this project, we looked at many professional tableaus from many different artists.
We also read short stories to give us a better understanding on what we needed to do. One of the stories that I enjoyed was called, "Tomorrow, Tomorrow, Tomorrow." The story was about a potion that was created to let people live for far beyond their time. Since people lived to be 150 to 180 the world had become much too populated. That was one of the phenomenon that we studied and got ideas from.
In this project we worked on dystopian vignettes and tableaus. We researched all about tableaus to see how they differ from a picture. A tableau is a group of models or motionless figures representing a scene from a story or from history. We were in groups of 3 coming up with a real social phenomenons that could turn into bigger problems in the future. We selected a topic we wanted to expand on and create a vignette on. All 3 of us put our ideas together taking turns typing our one page story. After many drafts we base our tableau off the general topic of the vignette.
Working together in group projects always has its challenges. Most of the time every person in the group has their own specific job to do. In the writing that we did in this project, I worked with 2 other people and it was quite difficult. It was not the people that I worked with but the way we worked. Having 3 people write a one page story was hard from the beginning. It is a struggle to make sure everyone has a say. My group could have worked on a little better communication but in the end my group worked pretty well together, which was lucky.
Through our tableau, our main goal was to show garbage. We represented this by a class difference and someone throwing trash in the gutter while someone is picking up the mess. It shows some people don't care but at the same time other people are worried about what is happening to the world and want to change it.
