Everyone has a story, interest and opinion. Team RunDMC expressed ours through the book we wrote titled The Book of Us. Every person on my team wrote a non-fiction piece about something that matters to us. We pieced all of our writings together in an anthology, published it, and launched it with a cafe reading at our Festival Del Sol exhibition on Wednesday, March 25th 2015.

There was a long process of writing, re-writing and critiquing. Click here to view one of my first drafts of writing. To see how much I grew through my writing piece in a period of a few short weeks, click here to see my final draft. We looked to a mentor text to get inspiration for our pieces. Reflection:
I went through an interesting change with my writing from the beginning to the end. I started my 1 = 18 quick writes on softball not knowing we would later turn it into our pieces for the Book of Us. I realized what I was writing wasn't too interesting and I wanted to tell a more engaging story about myself. I felt that my experience volunteering in the ER would paint a better, more graphic and memorable story in peoples minds. After writing my first draft I got feedback multiple times to get more into detail about the situations I was in. I was told not to be afraid to gross the reader out. I took the critique and went into some detail of blood and gore that I have encountered. I changed my draft multiple times to have my explanations, personal growth and adventures really shine. I worked to really etch an image in the audiences minds. If I were to change my piece at all I would add more stories and interesting things I have dealt with on a weekly basis. Overall I am proud of my final draft and feel like it came a long way.
